This course will look at how anti-racism is about making consistent, intentional and conscious choices to challenge racism and disrupt the many ways that it occurs in our practice and its presence within the systems and structures of the childcare sector.

What will I learn?

It is illegal to treat people differently because of their skin colour or culture. It is important for us all to collectively embrace diversity.

This course aims to support childcare practitioners in highlighting the importance of identifying and addressing issues of racism and embedding an anti-racist approach within the childcare setting.

As well as having an understanding of what race, racism and anti-racism and develop an understanding of the impact of racism on children.

Key topics include:

  • Discover types of racism and racial discrimination
  • Have an awareness of policy context associated with anti-racist practice
  • Discover steps you take tackle racism, promote equality and foster good relations
  • Identify racist behaviour and talking to children about racism
  • Discover where to find additional support, resources and recommended reading.

Course duration: 2 – 3 hours
