Business rates for nurseries in England

NDNA launches quick business rates poll for nurseries

NDNA has launched a snapshot survey for all private and voluntary nurseries in England who are eligible to pay business rates

We campaign for better access to high-quality early education and care for children and this includes lobbying the Government for nurseries in England to be made exempt from paying business rates.

Jonathan Broadbery, NDNA’s Director of Policy said: “Unfair business rates on nurseries take resources away from being spent on children’s learning, essential staffing and other costs of offering government-funded childcare.

“We have successfully lobbied for relief for nurseries in Scotland and Wales and we need this evidence to continue to make a strong case in England.

“We’re gathering the latest picture of the impact of business rates on nurseries ahead of the Autumn Statement on 17 November. Please take our short poll to give details of the current costs and the impact this has on your setting.”

The survey will run until midday on Friday 11 November and asks for the current business rates bill, whether there has been an uplift, and the impact of this on the nursery.

We would urge all private and voluntary nurseries to fill this in, members and non members of NDNA.
