Championing SEND will help staff increase their confidence and knowledge when working with children with SEND.

Description

Championing SEND will help staff increase their confidence and knowledge when working with children with SEND.

This 12 month online programme is led by a Championing SEND Lead and Deputy in your setting who will coach the staff team.

By joining the Championing SEND programme, you’re joining a group of early years practitioners across England who are committed to improving outcomes for children with SEND.

When you take part in the programme, you’ll develop the knowledge, skills and confidence of your staff team, and help families access the information they need.

Over 1.5 million pupils in England have special educational needs (SEN).

Both the number of pupils with an education, health and care (EHC plan) and the number of pupils with SEN support have increased each year since 2016 with the current data showing:

  • The percentage of pupils with an EHC plan has increased to 4.3%, from 4.0% in 2022
  • The percentage of pupils with SEN but no EHC plan (SEN support) has increased to 13.0%, from 12.6% in 2022.

NDNA’s Championing SEND Programme has nine steps to work through. The evidence based programme is designed to support the practice of the whole team, and improve outcomes for all children with SEND and their families.

Our 12 month programme includes:

  • The Role of the SENCO – recorded virtual course
  • Two SEND courses for staff to develop their practice. Up to 25 of each course
  • Online coaching course
  • Staff confidence and learning environment audits and action plans
  • Core activities that can be used to support children of all ages
  • A bank of resources related to supporting teaching, the environment and resources
  • Recorded webinars.

Note: this programme is relevant for England-only settings.
