Wales: Supporting early childhood play, learning and childcare ahead of the Senedd elections

Ahead of the Senedd elections on 7 May, NDNA Cymru has brought together a set of resources to help nursery members and parents make informed choices that support early childhood play, learning and childcare in their local communities and across Wales.

These resources explain why early years policy matters and how decisions made at Senedd level affect children, families, and nursery provision.

NDNA Cymru Manifesto: The Best Start for Children in Wales

NDNA Cymru has published its manifesto, The Best Start for Children in Wales. The manifesto sets out what is needed for an Early Childhood Play, Learning and Childcare (ECPLC) system that works for children, families, and providers across Wales.

It focuses on quality experiences for children, support for working families, and sustainable funding and conditions for nursery providers.

Letters for parents

NDNA has created a template letter specifically for parents, explaining why early childhood play, learning and childcare matters and how political decisions can affect their children, childcare access, and local nurseries.

Nursery members can share this letter with families to help them understand the importance of supporting the early years sector.

Letters for Senedd election candidates

NDNA has also produced a separate template letter for Senedd election candidates. This letter outlines the benefits of high quality ECPLC, the challenges facing nursery providers in Wales, and what the sector needs from the next Welsh Government.

Nursery members and parents can use this letter to contact candidates directly.

Find your local Senedd candidates

Parents and nursery members can find out who is standing in their local area by entering a postcode here.

This makes it easier to contact candidates and raise issues that matter to early years provision locally.
