Healthy Ice-cream

As the third Sunday in July is National Ice Cream Day, why not make your own healthy ice-cream for children to enjoy as a summer treat. You can choose your own ingredients to make a range of flavours to suit children’s taste buds.

  • Share own likes and dislikes
  • Try new flavours.

Resources you will need

Ingredients for ice cream mixture 

  • 6 large, ripe bananas 
  • Strawberries or frozen berries  
  • 300g of fat-free Greek-style yoghurt 
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract or 1 tsp of honey 
  • Food processor 
  • Access to a freezer 
  • Bowls/cones. 

Healthy Ice-cream activity guide

  1. Chop the bananas and strawberries  into chunks and pop them into individual Ziplock bags and place in the freezer for 2-4 hours, until frozen  
  2. Remove the frozen fruit from the freezer into the food processor, along with the natural yoghurt and vanilla extract or honey 
  3. Blend until smooth and scoop into a bowl or tub. Refreeze if required 
  4. Scoop the ice-cream into bowls or into ice-cream cones (optional)
