NDNA Cymru Early Years Education Officer
Hayley has been working with children since the age of 15 and has developed a strong passion for education and early years that has spanned over a range of experiences before joining the NDNA Cymru team in 2019. Hayley’s role focuses on the delivery of the Foundation Learning contract, providing support, resources and training to NDNA member settings with the delivery of Nursery education across Wales.

“The last few years have been an exciting one for me. Not only have we seen the publication of curriculum and assessment guidance specifically written for the non-maintained sector, along with the development of guidance to support Early Childhood Play, Learning and Care (ECPLC) guidance but I have been lucky enough to be involved in the co-construction of the documents too! I relish the opportunity to represent the sector and ensure guidance and resources that represent settings across Wales and provide real and meaningful support.
I have been pleased to meet practitioners face-to-face through NDNA Cymru events, member visits and sector events, which is always a delight. Thank you to those who have shared effective practice and have been involved in sharing your stories through presentations and case studies. Real and practical examples of quality provision offers rich professional learning opportunities for others, from practitioners for practitioners.
Considering the many ongoing challenges you have been facing over recent years, the way settings have embraced the curriculum and ECPLC guidance is astounding and it is often mentioned by Welsh Government colleagues through the partnership work we do with them.
All settings and practitioners are on journey towards implementation of ECPLC and Curriculum for Wales, and as with many journeys, everyone will be at completely different points. I want to reassure you every point of the journey is valid and that I am here to support you in progressing along. Many members have made use of the 1:1 support available through virtual meetings as well as emailing me or sending a text message. I want you to continue to do so and remember that no question is too small!
Upon speaking with members, local authorities and the inspectorates, I continue to develop resources, case studies and deliver professional learning opportunities that address setting needs. I will continue to share these through our email newsletters and on the website – please do keep an eye out for them.
Hopefully you will have seen the latest update to our ‘ECPLC/Curriculum for Wales’ website page. To make it easier for you to navigate and find the information and resources you need, the pages have been split and labelled clearly. Keep exploring the pages and use the resources available to support you.
This is an exciting time for Early Childhood, Play, Learning and Care in Wales and I’m looking forward to supporting you. Please feel free to contact me through phone or email with any questions, concerns or feedback and do ask to book in for an informal 1:1 session if you would like to discuss anything in further detail. Keep going, you’re doing an amazing job!”
