Summer can be a time when parents are looking for budget friendly ideas to entertain the family. Having fun doesn’t have to cost money, so why not create a list of fun, free activities for your families to enjoy, starting with the tips below. 

  1. Use a staff meeting to share ideas of local events that are free for families over the summer period 
  2. Explore local community garden projects that families can take part in and access free fruit and vegetables for some volunteer help 
  3. List the local parks in your community 
  4. Research local museums that offer free entry and share the details and location with families; local museums can offer a unique insight to the local history of the area 
  5. Share details of free English Heritage Sites in your local area – there are thirty free sites across the country 
  6. Research events at your local library, for example, free story telling sessions for children and families 
  7. The Wildlife Trust have over forty wildflower meadows that families can visit for free
