Every Voice Belongs (Wales)
What if some of the children we describe as “not communicating” are actually communicating all day — just not always in the ways adults expect?
Join NDNA Cymru and Jaziea Farag (Founder of Courage to Climb) for Every Voice Belongs. This webinar invites practitioners to become communication detectives across the nursery day. Rather than beginning with what a child cannot yet say or do, we start with a different question. What is this child already telling us — and have we learnt how to notice it?
Practitioners will explore:
- communication before and beyond spoken words
- becoming curious about behaviour as communication without assuming every behaviour has one simple explanation
- how busy nursery environments can unintentionally privilege confident verbal communicators
- communication difference versus possible ALN
- supporting multilingual children without viewing multilingualism as a deficit
- replacing interpretations such as “aggressive”, “shy” or “doesn't listen” with useful observation
- how environment, relationships and emotional safety affect communication
- using families' knowledge to build a fuller picture of the child
- maintaining high expectations while creating different ways for children to participate
Every child has a voice. Inclusive practice begins when we broaden our understanding of what a voice can look like.
