Healthy Body, Happy Me 2026: Healthy Heroes

The National Day Nurseries Association (NDNA) is running its annual campaign, Healthy Body, Happy Me to encourage our youngest children to live happy, healthy and fulfilled lives.

Our 2026 theme, Healthy Heroes, is all about celebrating the superpowers that help children grow strong, confident and resilient. From foods that energise to caring for your teeth, movement, rest and wellbeing, this year’s activities encourage little ones to discover that being a hero starts with taking care of themselves and others.

Throughout the week, settings can explore what it means to be a Healthy Hero through play, discovery and creativity. From Munching Monday’s fruity fun and Toothtastic Tuesday’s science experiments, to Workout Wednesday’s superhero training camp and Thriving Thursday’s mindfulness and self-care. The week ends in celebration with 5-a-Day Friday, where children reflect on everything they’ve learned and enjoy a healthy and colourful feast together.

We also want to encourage parents to practice healthy eating habits and mindfulness at home, so children can embed their learning in the comfort of their own space. Families can brush their teeth together, play football in the garden to stay active, or practice stretching to promote mindfulness.

Our new theme is the idea that health is a balance of movement, nourishment, rest, hydration and connection. Research by Ramos-Pla and Fornons Casol (2025) shows that health education in early childhood supports lifelong wellbeing and development. Healthy Heroes builds on this through joyful hands-on learning that helps every child sees themselves as strong, capable and caring true heroes in everyday life.

Tim McLachlan, Chief Executive of NDNA said:

“I’m incredibly proud of how our Healthy Heroes theme empowers children to discover the small but powerful choices to live happy, confident and healthy lives. Our launch of Healthy Body, Happy Me 2026 encourages movement, nourishment, rest and connection. We’re helping every child recognise the hero within themselves.”

Chris Mahady, CEO of Findel said:

“At Hope, we believe every child deserves the best possible start in life. That’s why we’re delighted to support NDNA’s Healthy Heroes campaign, which helps young children discover the everyday choices that keep their bodies and minds strong.

“Encouraging healthy habits early gives children the confidence, resilience, and wellbeing they need to flourish both now and in the future.”
