What will I learn?All food handlers, which includes childcare practitioners must have an understanding of the basic principles of food hygiene. They need to know how to work safely in order to protect the food they serve from contamination. By taking this course, childcare practitioners will meet the legal and curriculum requirements for preparing, handling, cooking and serving food.This course will give practitioners the knowledge to safely and confidently prepare and serve food in their setting. It meets the requirements of UK Law and the individual curriculum requirements of England, Scotland and Wales.
- For England, the EYFS states that, “In group provision, all staff involved in preparing and handling food must receive training in food hygiene.”
- In Scotland, the Setting the Table guidance, states in section 4.6 that “All those handling food, or preparing and storing infant milk (breast milk or formula) will need training in food safety and hygiene.”
- In Wales, the National Minimum Standards states in section 10.11, “those responsible for the preparation and handling of food are fully aware of and comply with regulations relating to food safety and hygiene.”
