NDNA Shines at the Institute of Directors (IoD) Awards
11 September 2009 – National Day Nurseries Association (NDNA) today announced that Chief Executive Purnima Tanuku scooped the ‘Voluntary and Charitable Sector Award’ at the prestigious Institute of Directors (IoD) Director of the Year Awards for the Yorkshire and Humber region.
Purnima was awarded the title at a black tie dinner held at the Queen’s Hotel in Leeds last night where hundreds of business leaders were gathered. Judges were impressed with Purnima’s leadership in helping NDNA become a nationally recognised organisation and her instrumental role in both the development of NDNA’s National Early Years Enterprise Centre and its infrastructure so that NDNA can support the wider childcare workforce across the UK.
Purnima comments: “I am thrilled to be receiving this award and to be recognised in this way in the face of some tough competition. Together with the team at NDNA we have worked hard to ensure NDNA is a nationally recognised organisation at all levels in order to represent our members. The award is a great opportunity to raise the profile of the sector in the national business community and receive recognition for its importance in a healthy economy. This year we are celebrating NDNA’s 10th birthday and all the sector has achieved, and this award makes these celebrations even more special. This is certainly a real achievement for us.”
John Thompson, regional director for the IoD in Yorkshire and the Humber comments: “This was a superb night that celebrated the outstanding achievements of some of Yorkshire’s most dynamic business leaders. This year’s entries were particularly strong and I want to congratulate all those who made it onto this year’s shortlist and acknowledge the success of the winners whose hard work and innovation achieves incredible results for their companies and contributes to the prosperity of the region.”
