NDNA to Support Leadership Skills in Sector Through Delivery of Level 5 Award

11 February 2009 – National Day Nurseries Association (NDNA) today announced that it has been accredited by the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) to deliver the Level 5 Award in Management.

With management and leadership of increasing importance to the sector, NDNA is now accredited to run a Level 5 award in management specially tailored to the needs of the early years sector. The award is recognised by the forthcoming Qualifications Credit Framework and offers points that can be used towards further development, for example achieving the skills to become an Early Years Professional.

NDNA will be running the programme via open courses and the organisation can also deliver the award in-house for nurseries and local authorities. Taking up to nine months to complete, the award involves both face to face and distance learning and the core aim of the programme is to develop leadership and management skills. Topics covered include the leadership and management role, communication, leading teams and personal development. It also provides valuable skills in helping leaders to deliver the relevant curriculum, including the Early Years Foundation Stage.

Designed to help delegates improve how they lead their teams, the course also covers communicating complex information effectively, setting goals and managing individuals to achieve these. The programme is suitable for those who wish to enhance their work in a management position and who are working at a Level 4 or as a senior practitioner.

Stella Ziolkowski, Director of Quality and Workforce Development at NDNA comments: “We are absolutely delighted to have been accredited by the Institute of Leadership and Management to deliver this award. Leadership and management skills are vital in ensuring a setting is sustainable, high-quality and reflects upon practice to achieve a culture of continuous development. This award helps ensure that all leaders are fulfilling their potential, and identify where they can improve further. Undertaking this award also supports prospective and existing Early Years Professionals, and as it is recognised by the forthcoming Qualifications Credit Framework it does count towards higher-level qualifications. We are looking forward to supporting the sector through delivery of this award, and are already finding we have a high level of interest in some forthcoming open courses.”
